Question Words/Tshechu/Preposition.

BJEEZAM PRIMARY SCHOOL.

Blogger for the Month of October, 2020.

Topic: Question Words/Tshechu/Preposition.

I quote the William Arthur Ward’s quotation to commence with, “The mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires” I unquote.  It has now become a time where a teacher has to be fully inspirational along with the technologies usage. So, I have tried to use various means of ICT and integrated the use of ICT in my daily teaching. While using ICT in online teaching, I have come cross many pros and cons especially with the problem of limited learning resources and to fully utilize the advantages of using the ICT in classroom. The most important thing that I’ve been benefitted from using ICT is the ability to present my teaching aids and learning materials very clearly. This was mainly because of the use of smart phones and we chat forum and of course the internet facility. Some other benefit of using ICT was the usage of XRecorder APPs which I used to demonstrate reading and to do teaching as well. By availing different medium of ICT, I was able to go beyond the curriculum and get access to additional information to keep children abreast with the current situation. I browsed for extra information and material that are available from the internet which made learning more easy and fun. Therefore, ICT in teaching has really eased the work for both the teacher and the students. Sometimes, when the student ask their doubts which I also find difficult, then, I use Google facilities to clear their doubts and be a confident teacher teaching to the young children.

However, for every advantage there is a disadvantage. The first thing is the poor internet connection, then no smart phones for some children of poor family, some not being able to recharge their phones, thus, downloading huge files for teaching and learning has been quite challenging. Browsing basic information and downloading small files have been made possible from mobile phone but downloading video lessons and educational movies for students have been impossible. The second thing is that most children do not turn up and participate in the we chat whereby their attendance is not 100% which would affect for the result.

Coming to my ICT teaching and learning for the month of October, first we printed the SIM (Self Instructional Materials) volume IV and V. Then, I went to the villages to distribute and do contact teaching while distributing the SIM. After that, I taught them through we chat and XRecorder for reading. I also sent them some e-learning videos and they were also taught on how to search for e-learning video lessons in the earlier months. Sometimes, we call them in small groups to the school with COVID protocols for learning and we also went to their home twice a week. Finally, I asked children to submit their work through we chat and their assessment was done there.

Integrating of ICT in my teaching for the month of September, 2020.

Topic: The Lion and the Mouse.

Class III.

On 15th August, 2020 I taught class III English on the topic “Lion and the Mouse”. To teach the lesson, we the teachers went in groups to the villages along the SIM distribution and correction. I went to four villages in turn wise where the children come from. I printed their SIM and then distributed to them followed by teaching in the villages.

This time my topic was on the “Lion and the Mouse”. First, I greeted them and asked them how they are. Then I introduced my topic by talking about the animals and how the animals help each other. After that I told them that we will learn about lion and the mouse. Before I start my lesson, I showed them a short video clip from the Google search and told them to watch carefully saying that I will ask questions at the end. This was the video:

With this video, I told them to open their SIM and we read the story together. In the activity part, besides what was given in the text I asked them to do Google search other similar videos by themselves at home. They were asked to use their parents mobile to look for the Google search. Then I instructed the children to write the answers and submit in the We chat forum. After instruction I also did good monitoring and helped to needy ones in operating technical facilities. During the course of the activity children didn’t face much problem in using the tool as they were well acquainted with the Google search in the smart phone at home. All my children tried their best to use the facilities and result was awesome as all the children were able to complete the task on time with good quality.

By and by, I also taught grammar on the topic preposition and syllable through we chat. I sent a short video clip to give an example each and then gave questions which children were supposed to send through we chat.

Today, with the invent of ICT development and the usage of smart phones our children are able to use some basic ICT tools correctly like Google search and YouTube. Yet, we as a teacher must educate the children on the pros and cons of using ICT as well. We can make the ICT tool user friendly with our proper guidance and instruction as Google search has many advantages such as time saving, accurate information, paper less tool, collaboration learning, and engagement etc. in my next attempt I would like to try and use other tool such as You Tube in my ICT integration lesson.

Lastly, I would like to submit that due to desuung duty during lock down, I couldn't get enough time to teach for this month. So, I was almost engaged for 24 hours duty at Bjeezam check post. Therefore, I have tried my best to use ICT in my teaching using smart phones. This was also done by first managing to visit the villages and then collecting the children's work through we chat. Ours is both SIM and ICT integration although we have not enough facilities and implementation this time but I commit to implement more in my future lessons.

Thank You

Integrating ICT in my Classroom Teaching.

Overview of the Lesson:

Unlike past, this year I have to teach children through Google classroom due to pandemic COVID-19 as the schools across the country had to close w.e.f 18/3/2020. The schools were expected to reopen very soon but now it has prolonged and even the nation has to lock down. Before the national lock down, I used to go to the villages to reach SIM (Self Instructional Materials) to my children and there we teach them few examples so that the children can do later on their own.

My lesson on the topic writing about ‘MYSELF’ in grade III started on we chat group of class III through a short video clip of my teaching. As an introduction, I asked few questions about themselves to relate with the topic. Then I read the text and explained from the SIM. After that I asked children to read the text about a girl named Choki in their SIM and then write about themselves. Since, we have Google class teaching from class IV onward, I have used only we chat forum for teaching and learning.

Although, the government has provided SIM as a measure of EIE (Education in Emergency), we have focused more on literacy and numeracy (Adaptive curriculum) and less on other minor subjects (Prioritized curriculum), we have come across so many challenges with the use of technologies. Because, most children in the remote schools are totally novice to the use of smart phones and their  parents are illiterate who face a lot of problems. Firstly, they cannot afford to buy smart phones and even if they manage somehow also, they lack with the recharge. Secondly, the children are not able to operate Google classroom. Therefore, I really had a tough time with Google teaching and finally landed up on we chat teaching. So, I taught through we chat and they submitted their work through we chat but sometimes we went to their home for teaching and correction.

Nevertheless, I felt it is good to have ICT integrated lesson in our teaching. It is very effective and the children can pay full concentration in learning. In this lesson, I have asked children to write about themselves and then write about their friends. I also asked them to do Google Search on e-learning by showing them how to do.

Future Commitment:

In fact, it was a great challenge for both me and the students to teach through Google class teaching apps. So, it is important for both the teacher and the student to sit together to learn through ICT integration. It isn’t possible to teach directly online without orienting children on how to use ICT. Therefore, I will try to teach how to use Google Apps and then focus more on the integration of ICT in planning of lesson according to the skills to be practiced.  Hope, I will be able to make every part of my lesson rich in delivering the required skills, so that end beneficial will be our learners. To this end I would definitely endeavor to explore and look for all possibility to integrate ICT in my lessons with appropriate and relevant tools.

DEMONSTRATED ON HOW TO DO E-LEARNING:

Directed Children on how to do Google Search on E-Learning: Showed these videos to see and write about our self and friends. (I couldn't upload my own video although it is of 1-2 minutes as the computer says that the 'Maximum file size exceeded, delete one or two' despite several attempts. Please bear with me sir).
